Whiteboards

If you have a lot of machines and lot of projects you probably have a lot of measurements and small notes it would be helpful to keep track of.
To solve this problem I’ve put small whiteboards for notes at each machine station.
I gave my approach to this some thought and decided I wanted a few things to make this as efficient as possible.
- Must be able to use one handed
- No marker caps
- Eraser must be handy at all time.
So first I found retractable dry erase markers. Unfortunately I can’t find any of these with my supplier so I can’t offer them in my store. It takes about 2 seconds to find them on Amazon though.
Then I found some nice small dry erase erasers.
Next I got some industrial strength velcro
Assembly
I used a staple gun to put up whiteboards next to each station. Wherever necessary I used a 1×2 to make a post to staple the whiteboard to. If I have a large patch of metal to work with a magnetic backed white board works. Then for each station I took a marker and wrapped it with the soft side of the velcro. Also I glued a patch to the back of the eraser. Then I put a strip of the rough side of the velcro either on the bottom of the whiteboard or on the post it’s mounted to.
And that’s it!
Now when I’m at a station if I need to do some quick math I can jot it down on there. If I have multiple steps or measurements I can quickly list them all out. And it doesn’t require me to drop everything as long as I can get one hand free. Everything is right there. If you write big enough you can see the writing from other stations as well which can be handy.

As you can see I’m very organized.
